We spent 4 wonderful nights at Mon Choix "La Maison de Vallée des Prêtres" with Jean Michel and Joan
He picked us up from the airport and that was just the start of a personal and unobtrusive service that they provided.
They have a lovely quiet house in the hills with astounding views over Port Louis, surrounded by birds and lush vegetation.
They arranged car hire and  taxis at a much cheaper rate than we could have got them and they were entertaining and fascinating about the Island.

I particularly appreciated the candle light which is used extensively to enhance the wonderful atmosphere of this lovely ecolodge which is seriously leading Mauritius into eco-tourism.

"A Touching Stay": We booked Mon Choix through the web after an exhausting search. We felt very soon accommodation wise Mauritius can be challenging and so we digited eco lodges.
In fact we were ready for something out of the conventional touristic circuit and I can tell you that this was just fantastic.
The location is a bit far from the coast if you are willing to see the all island; so for example you have the east coast at more than one hour, the south at one hour because of the highway and the first beach on the west side is just at 20 m.
You are basically in the heart of the island. Entering the house is like landing on a soft silky cushion (at least as I can imagine this would be) after a long and tiring trip.
Coco and Shatzu were the first to welcome us. These 2 beautiful dogs for us were part of the package: so polite, so nice...Then we met Joanne, Jean Michel and their sun and all of them were absolutely dedicated to make us feel at home. From the beginning we wanted to learn something of Mauritius through some locals so we were happy to spend some time in nice chatting every morning and every evening with our landlord but I want to precise that this is not compulsory, when you stay at Mon Choix you also have your privacy and socialize with the owners or the other guests is entirely your choice.
The house is entirely designed and furnished by Joanne and Jean Michel with an impeccable taste that creates everywhere soft and though joyful atmosphere. There is a huge terrace with a breathtaking view and our room was just perfect, with an enclosed bathroom and our own terrace.
I should spend some words on the breakfast: absolutely outstanding, more interesting that so many 5 stars hotels if you look for genuine food, good ambience, stunning view (what do you need more than this to start your day?).
We have chosen to spend 2 dinners with them and I must say that Christophe, their son is a wonderful cook and Joanne set up is, once again, unbeatable.
We spent there 4 nights and afterwards we moved down the coast just because we wanted to have a touch of a beach style of life but I can tell you that in order to find something as charming as Mon Choix, you can only knock at the door of few 5 stars on the East coast but if it happen that you work on a 5 star all year round...you actually look for something a bit more personal...and by the way, you will not find in Mauritius.
So, if you are willing to rent a car and drive, if you really want to discover the island and it matters a lot staying in a nice and cosy environment where the beauty of the Nature melt with the welcoming atmosphere of the place, Mon Choix is the only place to be at Mauritius.

J'ai choisi cette chambre d'hôtes pour son emplacement central idéal : 
très près de Port Louis mais dans le calme des montagnes avec une 
vue... unique. Une amie me l'avait aussi conseillée ;-)

Joan, et son Mari Jean-Michel, m'ont accueilli bras ouverts et on 
contribuer à me faciliter la vie (personnelle et professionnelle). 
Différents et incontestablement complémentaires, ils m'ont fait 
découvrir des facettes de l'Île chacun à leur manière et avec leur 
sensibilité.

La maison est donc perchée sur les hauteurs de Port Louis et offre des 
prestations très convenables (grandes chambres, sdb individuelles, 
piscine (en cours d'aménagement mais fonctionnelle), plusieurs belles 
terrasses extérieures, machine à laver, jardin arboré (mais assez 
difficile d'accès si enfant(s), frigo dans les chambres, ... On 
déplore cependant une connexion Internet haut débit... pour le 
business c'est moins drôle ! Pas un souci si vous achetez une petite 
carte 3G pour quelques roupies avant d'arriver ! Les petits déjeuners 
sont agréables et les deux chiens gentils vous apportent le journal 
avec.
Le ménage, les lits, etc. sont fait tous les jours ; rien à redire.

Je recommande sans réserve pour le business et pour la famille.

Mon Choix is a fantastic location for a relaxing and peaceful holiday in Maurittius, Away from the tourist areas yet only 15 minutes drive from the Port Lous waterfront, it is a good base to explore the island from, being centrally located.
The Hosts - Joan and Jean-Michel - are really helpful with their local knowledge and contacts, and they made me feel like part of the family from day one, yet respected my privacy when I wanted to be alone. I was looking for somewhere away from the typical tourist hotels, and Mon Choix was the perfect choice. A car is essential as it is off the beaten track at the top of a very scenic valley surrounded on three sides by mountains.

On the way to La Reunion, we made last December a stopover in Mauritius. We were looking for a quiet accommodation in the "middle" of the island, a little bit outside the coastal resort and by fluke we found in the net the homepage of Mon Choix and it was just perfect!
Joan and Jean-Michel welcome us with open arms and we feel immediately like at home. They are both very friendly and helpful, giving a lot of interesting information about Mauritius, suggestions for a day trip or a walk with Tasha" and "Coco" in the nature.
Our room was spacious and lovely arranged (like by the way all the house!) with a separate bathroom and an own terrace.
In the morning a copious breakfast was waiting for us and we just enjoyed it with the lovely view to the mountains of the vallée des prêtres and the nice breath of air you have there.
Mon Choix is definitively the best place in Mauritius to relax !
